True, his sound is sweet, strong, powerful, but his touch is actually light on the strings. Im actually not a big fan of 78’ shows probably because Im

just big on their older sound of the late 60’s. That said this show has something different, the band is mostly tight, stretching tunes to the limit. Great song selection, nice > into another slow easy progression done very nicely. Ive had this SB for a while and it really has held up thru the years. I always go thru the Dec. shows from year to year, kind of a holiday thing for me. Always have felt the shows seem better at the tail end of each year. Enough of my rambling, this show really has some very fine jams, and Weir has made this show special. Jerry -blues,jazz,r and r, he is right there for this one. Peace to all…….

Sure doesn't sound like wolf jerry's playing. Gotta be the Travis Bean. As always it sounds good and sharp. Sounds good with the groovier 78 style. I absolutely

love 78 GD. It may not be the cleanest. But I always find myself loving the shows anyway. This is a great recording. And I think the show smokes.

Typical Fall 78
I don't remember if I've ever listened to this show, I only came to reference a song or two after just reading that Weir was apparently dosed on this night?
...
I plan on doing a 1978 listening project in 2022, perhaps I'll revisit this performance review then. I tend to avoid Fall 78 every year in favor of 72-73, so I'm looking forward to finding surprises in 1978. But a quick sample notes that the tracking is messed up here, the encore was moved so the Bertha track is actually US Blues, Good Lovin is actually Bertha, etc. It doesn't affect the listening experience in any significantly negative way, just something worth noting. Overall sound quality is typical Fall 78. It's a clear board with a good enough mix, but the cassette gen shows a bit. I think this could be a candidate for a matrix with Wagner's AUD if someone felt like putting in the time. I don't usually star rate shows in general but especially if I haven't actually listened to the show.

If ever I return, your cities all shall burn
Hey just wanted to put this out there This was my 2020 Roll Call: (over at the GD Forum) To my friends here at the GD Forum Wishing all of you the best! "They
...
say LOVE your brother but you catch it when you try" 3 Things in Life: The Good Book Good Times Good Lovin' "Jesus did many other things as well. If every one of them were written down, I suppose that even the whole world would not have room for the books that would be written." New Years Eve 2019- Rap: The ALMIGHTY has given us enough in the Bible to know that Jesus is GOD. and how much did we learn about Jesus this year 2019 / 5780 Hebrew Well, If you are anything like me the more I learn about Christ the more there seems to be to know. So the one thing I would say to stress to everyone is make sure of your Salvation. Is Jesus your only hope? HE is my LORD & my GOD! See from that perspective you and I have all eternity to come to know HIm. But on the flip side, this year blew by real quick for me. Seems like being over 50, I just sneeze a few times and it is Summertime which of course in South Florida is a solid 7 months of the year. But I digress, Studies show a large percentage of Christians come to faith early in life. So if you are waiting, Statistically, the odds are not so good. Yet , we have a Messiah who can and does save the very old, the infirmed, the outcasts, those who believed at first they were too good, and those who assumed they were too bad. Bible says, "Today if you hear His voice." Today is the day of Salvation! Anyway, all the best for 2020 I can truly say that if we focus this year on the Word of God and the Testimony of Jesus Christ then the world will be brighter as the Light and Love of Jesus shines thru us.. I just did a quick re read of the Hiding Place and if God can reach into Concentration Camps then this hell bound , baby murdering, school shooting house of worship slaughtering, pre-Apocalyptic America is just ripe for the Gospel. It is not how do we size up against others but are we holy .. for GOD is HOLY, HOLY, HOLY... At the cross the Ancient of Days offers us Christ righteousness in exchange for our fallen imperfect life in the line of Adam. It is God's solution to the catch-22 the Human Race has faced since the FALL in Eden. Abraham was ready to sacrifice his son, his only son to appease the wrath of God. Yet, God stayed Abraham but God did not Stay His Own hand He gave His Son, His only Son. This would be some terrible tragedy except we know that Christ has Risen The Payment for sin has been made. The Serpent's head is crushed "Born that man no more may die" Did you sing it this year? Always makes me cry! Sweet tears!!! Happy 2020 Only one way to be PERFECT in HIS sight and that is in CHRIST JESUS. Love, Chris Freedom

Only through the end of set 1...
... so no stars yet. However, I will say, that it may have been Keith's solo on 'Big River' that got him canned... ;) Otherwise, pretty solid so far...
...
I enjoyed the 1/2 Step>Frank opener a lot. I'll try to remember to come back and give an official star rating after I finish, but 3 and 1/2 for set 1.

This show is not one of the "favorite" shows by the fans, but is is really great. The estimated is one of the best in my opinion and Keith is really cooking..

he adds a lot to it. The whole show is great, but the estimated is one of the best from 78.

Peggy o versions from this era not to mention a soaring help>slip>frank suite. There is something about 78' I like and this show is a perfect example. Keith isn't yet playing like crap and just following jerry and bobby note for note, he actually acts with some color and he's still got some energy and brightness to him at least here with this show. I'm a big fan of he 78' uni-dome show as well. But Mickey has been back for a few years at this point and on this recording in particular there is great clarity to the interplay and syncopation of the drums. I love the doubled up almost slap back rhythmic effect you can hear from the syncopated beats on this peggy-o. Jerry is playing strongly, forthright and elegantly here as well. Really the last vestiges of the sound he had during this time..only a year or two later he has already started to change his style a good deal, but here you still get that touch of the bluesy jerry from the early years mixed in with the jazzy direction the band has gone and mashed into these country/pop rock tunes in that unique way only the dead could do. Jerry is popping and floating and bubbling all over the fretboard here really getting into the little on/off repeating lick patterns with those classic jerry hammer on and pull offs that we all love! What's also of import is that at this point in 1978 you still have Jerry's full throated singing voice which again within a few years had degraded noticeably, but not here. Here he sings beautiful and colorfully. Especially on this underrated franklins tower! Listen with confidence folks.
